Snowflake Crisps (雪花酥) are a beloved Taiwanese treat that’s perfect for any celebration, especially Chinese New Year! This viral sensation combines the light chewiness of nougat with a crispy texture, balanced by a mix of sweet, savory, and tart flavors from cranberries, nuts, and cookies. The best part? It’s completely customizable with your favorite ingredients. Fun to make and even better to eat, these treats are guaranteed to be a hit with both kids and adults alike!

Ingredients:

- 65g butter

- 230g marshmallows

- 1/4 teaspoon salt

- 80g milk powder + extra for sprinkling

- 100g mixed nuts of your choice - almonds, cashew, hazelnuts, pistachio etc.

- 50g freezer whole strawberries or raspberries

- 150g biscuit of your choice - Maria cookies, ritz cracker, oreos etc.

- 40g dried cranberries

Instructions:

1. In a large non-stick pan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir constantly until completely melted and smooth. Turn off the heat.

2. Stir in the milk powder until well combined. Add the nuts, biscuits, freeze-dried fruits and cranberries to the pan.

3. Mix thoroughly to coat all ingredients evenly with the buttery marshmallow mixture. Using your hands or a spatula, compress the mixture together into a firm, sticky mass.

4. Transfer the mixture to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Shape it into a rectangular block, pressing firmly to compact it evenly.

5. Sift milk powder over all sides of the block, ensuring it is lightly coated. Dust off any excess powder and let the crisp set at room temperature.

6. Once set, cut the block into bite-sized pieces or bars. Store in an airtight container.

Enjoy!
